Back to the Moon for Good

Narrated by Tim Allen, this program presents the Google Lunar X Prize, a competition of privately funded international teams attempting to land a rover on the lunar surface. From Neil Armstrong's first steps to the myriad of unmanned spacecraft sent to the Moon, learn about the history of lunar exploration and how it has transformed our understanding of Earth's natural satellite.

Although the 30-million dollar Google Lunar X Prize expired in 2018, one of the teams featured in the show - a private Israeli firm known as SpaceIL - successfully launched their small Beresheet lander on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on February 21, 2019 from Cape Canaveral. SpaceIL plans to land Beresheet on the lunar surface in April 2019.
