The Minorcans from New Smyrna to St. Augustine
After the British received Florida in 1763, they offered land grants to populate the peninsula. A Scottish physician, Andrew Turnbull, jumped at the chance to acquire land in Florida as he planned to begin an agricultural colony near present day Daytona Beach. As the story of what happens unfolds, the colonists eventually become residents of St. Augustine during the British period of Florida's rich history. Join Steve Voguit, Assistant Professor of History and Geography Coordinator of the Liberal Arts Major Facility and Humanities Department at Flagler College to learn about the history of Minorcans as they took up a new life in St. Augustine.
