Position Summary:
1. Management of the Security Department and security employees. Your responsibilities will include the management of all security employee PTO, work hours, and security specialty training, hiring, supervisor scheduling and training of new security employees.
2. Manage the security system hardware and software working with our security system contractors. Establish security policies and security procedures. Maintain professional contact with the local Daytona Beach Police Department and the Daytona Beach Fire Department.
3. Work in a team setting to help improve the overall security and safety of our organization. Be open minded to new security and facility system technology that is available for a museum setting. To include new security plans and new security policies that will grow and change as the organization changes. A teamwork attitude is essential at this organization.
4. Ensure that proper security coverage is maintained for all day and night events at the BMOA and the MOAS.
5. Represent the Security and Facilities Department when and as needed at any interdepartmental meetings, such as Logistics, Safety, and security reviews for the Curatorial Department, Planetarium, and the Events Department.
6. Ensure that the security maintenance contract tasks are completed as required.
7. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and assume additional responsibilities in his absence.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Supervise the monitoring of all gallery areas and exterior areas of the Museum of Arts & Sciences, the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art, and the Tuscawilla Nature Preserve.
- Perform physical patrols and direct other security guards to areas of the facility as
needed.
- While on duty, respond to fire and security alarms, medical emergencies, fire emergencies
and notify the appropriate civil authorities/MOAS leadership as needed.
- Document any incidents or irregularities, such as damage to exhibits, suspicious
behavior, or security breaches.
- Provide information and assistance to visitors regarding museum hours of operation,
rules, and safety issues.
- Ensure that both facilities are opened and closed properly while on your shift.
- Ensure that security employees are properly trained and that they follow all the
established security policies and protocols.
- Ensure that as a cultural institution, we are welcoming to our visitors, employees, and
work with all departments to ensure that visitors and employees have a safe and
enjoyable museum environment to work in and to visit.
Physical Demands:
a. The individual must be able to physically move about the facilities and the exterior site to perform security oversight while on duty. Standing for prolonged periods is also required.
b. The individual must be able to walk in the Tuscawilla Nature Preserve without fear of snakes and wet ground. Proper exterior protective boot wear and exterior clothing will be provided.
c. The individual must be able to lift 25-pounds.
