Join us for our next Florida history book club meeting, in person at the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art or virtually on ZOOM where we will be discussing the book, Florida Forts.

After the United States formed a new nation, the government began developing a system of forts to protect the fledgling country from invasion from hostile forces. These systems evolved to meet the changing military technology and earthworks. The Second System forts, 1808 to 1816, were noted for the use of masonry encasements and earthworks. The Third System forts, from 1816 to 1867, were massive coastal forts constructed of all brick masonry.

RSVP by calling the Museum at 386-255-0285 or register online.

Admission: Free for members, $5.00 for future members.
