The Everglades is a region of tropical wetlands that occupies the southern portion of Florida. The Seminole nation emerged out of the groups of Native American's. Artists from the early 19th century on have found the visual characteristics of the people and the land compelling subjects for artwork.

For five weeks in the spring of 2022, girls at Pace Center for Girls, Volusia-Flagler worked with Florida visual artist and writer, Patricia Christakos to explore the photographic possibilities of telling personal stories through self-portraiture.
